At Compassionate Paws, Inc. (CPI) our clients are individuals who suffer from the challenges of Developmental Disabilities. Our Compassionate Paws trainers SPECIALIZE in working with families affected with Autism and Autism Spectrum Disorders. All these individuals have family members who are similarly affected by Autism and whose needs are factored into our services.
Traditionally, Service Dogs (commonly referred to as Assistance Dogs) are trained to primarily assist adults with these same developmental disabilities with minimal follow up support once the dog is placed. At Compassionate Paws, we work with individuals of all ages regardless of residence throughout the United States keeping our PRIMARY FOCUS on children who reside in the states of Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana and Michigan. Our Compassionate Paws Dogs are trained to work with each member of the family according to the specific needs of each member within the family unit.
At Compassionate Paws we take a family-based approach when working with children affected with Autism and other Developmental Disabilities. We encourage siblings, parents, relatives, neighbors and professionals to participate in the development of a positive placement plan for the child. The role a Compassionate Paws Dog will play within the family unit will be ongoing and self-motivated. Because we place not only a Certified Service Dog but strive to provide a full balance of Customer Service and follow-up support to each family we work with, Compassionate Paws will remain accessible throughout the life of the placement.

Autism is most prominent in the context of social relationships. Compassionate Paws provides services that include, but are not limited to educational programs that can be presented to a child’s classmates to educate them about the specific challenge that he or she must face and how our Compassionate Paws Dogs assist them in their daily lives. Our dogs are part of these presentations, dressed in a Compassionate Paws Service Dog vest and ready to be a well trained ambassador for their child partner.
Keeping everyone's needs in balance, we focus on tailoring the effects of the child's challenge through the use of a Compassionate Paws Dog as a tool to achieve this result. Together, Compassionate Paws works with the family towards defining the role and training of every dog we place. Much of the actual fine tuning of the training occurs upon placement of the Compassionate Paws Dog after foundational behaviors have been firmly established, as the role of the Service Dog is in great part created by the developing bond between the child and the Service Dog. The ongoing support, guidance, training and affiliation that Compassionate Paws, Inc. provides helps make your placements stable over their entire life span. It is with great pride we follow our Compassionate Paws Dogs' progress as they settle into well-established routines that best assist their child partner in maximizing his or her potential.
Early intervention is crucial for children with Autism and other developmental disabilities to have them reach their optimal development. By Compassionate Paws incorporating the family unit and community into the child’s placement program with his/her Service Dog, our programs success rate provides a positive impact on the child’s ability to become mainstreamed into his/her entire surrounding environment.
We also provide public speaking, and consulting for anyone interested in learning more about the role a Service Dog can provide for children who face developmental disabilities of any kind.
